What do the Cubs have against Girl & the Goat?
Desperate to turn the corner on a particularly woeful season, the Chicago Cubs pitching staff took to Wrigley Field Tuesday afternoon with t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan "F**K the Goat!!!" After the Tribune's Paul Sullivan tweeted a picture of Carlos Zambrano rocking the look, I made what I thought was a joke by ignoring the obvious curse of the billy goat connection and asking if the team somehow had it out for Stephanie Izard's restaurant Girl & the Goat:
"Does @StephAndTheGoat know about the t-shirts the Cubs pitchers are wearing today? Fighting words..."
But when embattled Cubs skipper Mike Quade was asked about the profane team-building exercise, he replied, "I thought they were talking about the restaurant ... The Girl and the Goat," according to the Sun-Times' Cubs baseball Twitter feed run by Chris De Luca and Gordon Wittenmyer.
Guys, we know the line is long and you have to wake up early for those day games, but come on: Everyone knows Girl & the Goat is worth the wait.
Did the Cubs just jinx themselves out of a World Series championship for another century?
And did any of them bother to check the Urban Dictionary definition of a certain phrase that describes their 2011 campaign to a... tee?
UPDATE: During the Wednesday noon hour, Izard tweeted her response: "well f**k you guys too!"
New curse! See y'all next century...
