Tour de Fat at Palmer Square | Fest report + photo gallery
When you wake up to a beer-and-bicycle-themed circus practically on your front lawn, you just go, even if it's too early to drink beer (is it ever too early, really?) and your bike has had a flat for a month. The Tour De Fat, thrown by the folks from Colorado's New Belgium Brewing, has a bit of a West Coast freak-friendly flair about it. It begins with a bike parade that appeals to members of the cycling and steampunk scenes and various subcultures that I am ill-equipped to identify. The Tour's surprises were many. From Philly bubblegum rockers Free Energy headlining the big stage to a hilarious juggling act that kept my toddler captivated for a full hour, there was a lot going on in the square Saturday. If time had allowed, I might have taken the course in beer appreciation offered at the park. If you missed it, take a gander at the images above and put it on your calendar for next year.
