The Chicago Artists' Coalition showcases the 11 artists participating in its inaugural one-year BOLT residency, who include Melika Bass, Jenny Kendler and Amber Hawk Swanson. Opens Fri 19, 6–9pm.
"Luminous Ground: Artists with Histories" (All week)
In highlighting 11 Chicago artists whose careers span at least 50 years, curators Judith Lloyd Klauba and Doug Stapleton acknowledge that artistic development is a long process. While this exhibition doesn’t have room to examine its contributors’ careers in sufficient depth, its breadth lets viewers get to know silversmith William Frederick and longtime SAIC prof Elizabeth Rupprecht as well as more familiar favorites like Ellen Lanyon.Through Aug 26.
"The Urban Imaginarium" at Marwen (All week)
Artists including Jan Tichy and Noelle Mason contemplate city life and urban issues in photographs, fiber art and other media. Through Sept. 19.
