36 things to do this week in Chicago | Aug 22-25

Joffrey Ballet dancers rehearse onstage at the Pritzker Pavilion in Milennium Park before the 2010 Chicago Dancing Festival.
DANCE
Dance Union: drum, drum (Wed)
You don't need a beat to dance, but it sure does help. Ayako Kato, dancer and curator of Dance Union programs at Hamlin and at the Fasseas in Lincoln Park, performs in mutual improvisation with Mike Reed and Michael Zerang.
Chicago SummerDance in the Parks: Athletic Field Park (Wed)
Two of SummerDance's nine satellite events are at Athletic Field and, while the Northwest Side park's biggest claim to fame is its ceramics studio, potter's wheels won't be the only things spinning once you've taken a free dance lesson from 6–7pm.
Chicago Dancing Festival (all week)
Even though this fest of international dance companies is free, most tickets sold out faster than organizer Lar Lubovitch can plié. Performers include New York’s Doug Varone & Dancers, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, rising choreographer Adam Barruch, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Richard Move. See Dance for more.
