Dwyane Wade’s Wade World Weekend Kick-off Party with Estelle | Photo gallery + party report
“We don’t boo in the summer. Save that for the regular season, ” said Miami Heat guard and Chicago native Dwyane Wade, speaking from enclave nightclub’s main stage.
Last night at the kickoff party for D. Wade’s 4th annual Wade’s World Weekend to benefit the Wade’s World Foundation, a loudmouth concertgoer booed at the mention of Milwaukee. Perhaps he didn’t realize that the NBA star’s charity partly supports kids in Brew City, where Wade played on the Marquette University team.
After briefly addressing the naysayer, Wade kept the ball moving by introducing U.K. songstress Estelle. The British chart-topper also had to pause for a cause. She asked her DJ and background singers for silence because the “bougie” crowd wasn’t live enough to her liking.
It was all in fun. The spunky West Londoner continued to show her comedic side, hyping the crowd throughout her funk-filled set by dancing on stage with partier George Daniels, D. Wade and a randomly chosen guy from the audience. Her lively performance included singles "Wait A Minute," "Substitute Lover," "Break My Heart" and a rendition of Mary J. Blige’s "Real Love."
Wade's World Weekend runs through August 28. Saturday's highlights include the Chicago Has Talent Showcase and a grand finale party with DJ set from Lo Down Loretta Brown, a.k.a. Erykah Badu. For a complete list of events, visit wadesworldfoundation.org.
