Tasty insects? TOC talks Chicago's brightest ideas on Windy City Live

TOC features editor Laura Baginski was on Windy City Live this morning to discuss our Ideas issue and a variety of projects from the innovative minds in Chicago. For one, the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation discovered that the scent of green apples may alleviate migraines and reduce anxiety, and that of Columbian coffee makes time seem to move slower. Smells may also enhance libido; for men, the smell of pumpkin pie and lavender does the trick, and for women, cucumber and black licorice.

Another project comes from a student who aims to end world hungry by encouraging the eating of insects, which are high in protein, low in fat and cholesterol, cheap and plentiful. The Windy City Live gang was all for it (well, except for Ryan) — Roe tried a sour cream and onion flavored cricket, while Val tried a scorpion lollipop, and Laura tasted a chocolate covered ant. Bacon and cheddar worms, anyone?
