Bjorn Borg pulls out of Champions Series event

Tennis great Björn Borg won't play in Thursday night's Champions Series event due to a knee injury, officials announced Tuesday. Local favorite Todd Martin, a Hinsdale native and former Northwestern University player, will take his place in the seniors tour shootout, which will also feature Andre Agassi, John McEnroe and Jim Courier.
"I'm sorry I am not able to play this week in Chicago, St. Louis and Buffalo due to a knee injury," Borg said in a statement. "I look forward to playing on the Champions Series next year."
Several other Grand Slam champions are also playing on the tour, but not stopping in Chicago. They include Pete Sampras, Jimmy Connors, Mats Wilander, Ivan Lendl and Michael Chang. The players are competing for a $1 million prize pool that will be shared by the top three finishers at the end of the five-week season. Sampras has a commanding lead in the rankings, followed by Agassi and Chang.
Tickets start at $35 and are available at the United Center Box Office, Ticketmaster.com or by phone at 800-745-3000.
