September 24–30

World Music Festival Mon 24–Thu 27. Several venues including the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E Washington St (312-742-1938, worldmusicfestivalchicago.org). times and prices vary. Globe-trot through music at this citywide, multi-venue annual fest, which includes free and ticketed concerts. It will be interesting to see the schedule without the fest’s former, beloved curator, Michael Orlove, who’s now with the NEA.

* Chicago Gourmet Fri 28, 6–9pm Harris Theater, 205 E Randolph St. • Sat 29, noon–6pm; Sun 30, noon–5pm. Millennium Park, 55 N Michigan Ave (312-380-4128, illinoisrestaurants.org/associations/2039/chicagogourmet). $89–$250. If you’re still suffering from Top Chef withdrawal, make your way to Bon Appétit’s fifth annual celebration of local food and wine. Eat and drink your way through more than 100 Chicago restaurants and schmooze with chefs at cooking demos, tastings and book signings. The Hamburger Hop, a culinary showdown for the city’s best burger, kicks off the fest on Friday.

Long Grove Apple Festival Fri 28–Sun 30, 10am–6pm. Downtown Long Grove, quarter mile northwest of Routes 53 and 83, Long Grove (847-634-0888, longgroveonline.com/apple.html). $5. Apple-inspired treats ranging from brown-bag pies to cider, doughnuts, caramel lattes and martinis highlight this fall harvest fest. No word on any potential iPad giveaways.

Oktoberfest Chicago at St. Alphonsus Fri 28, 5–10pm; Sat 29, 11am–10pm; Sun 30, 11am–7pm. St. Alphonsus Church, 1429 W Wellington Ave (773-868-3010, chicagoevents.com). $5. West Lakeview’s annual Bavarian celebration will have you washing down brats with German beer. Kid-centric KinderFest is held on Sunday.

* FREE Design Harvest Festival Sat 29, Sun 30, 11am–8pm. Grand Ave between Damen Ave and Wood St (312-850-9390, design-harvest.com). This pop-up-shop-style fair showcases contemporary and sustainable design objects, furniture and home and garden accessories by local vendors and creators. For its third year the fest features food trucks, hay rides and live music.

Hyde Park Jazz Festival Sat 29, 1–10pm; Sun 30, 1–9pm. Various venues around Hyde Park, including Midway Plaisance, between 59th and 60th Sts, from Cottage Grove Ave to Stony Island Ave (773-665-4682, hydeparkjazzfestival.org). $TBA. The South Side arts haven gets jazzy with an outdoor festival in Midway Plaisance and concerts at various venues.

Randolph Street Market Festival Sat 29, 10am–6pm; Sun 30, 10am–5pm. 1350 block of W Randolph St (312-666-1200, chicagoantiquemarket.com). $10, online $8, kids under 12 free. Holding both the Chicago Antique Market and Indie Designer Market, this fest is on the last weekend of every month through September. Stop in for vintage clothes and jewelry, a vinyl swap meet, a fancy food market and a global goods bazaar. Peruse antiques or bring your own for appraisal.

FREE Ravenswood ArtWalk Sat 29, Sun 30, 11am–5pm. Ravenswood Ave between Irving Park Rd and Lawrence Ave (773-883-8858, ravenswoodartwalk.org). Roam around the North Side to take in local art, theater and live music.
