How similar is dressing The Oprah Winfrey Show to producing the Fear City haunted house?

It requires the same level of detail, whether you’re making bloody pig carcasses or Oprah’s favorite Christmas presents. The intensity is the same. They are both live shows, so everything has to be safe and everything has to be in the right spots. If you look closely while walking through the haunted house, you’ll see a couple of key items that were on the Oprah set. Every night is a different show, which is similar to Oprah. And there’s the same high level of anticipation—the audience doesn’t know what’s going to happen. If I could get women to scream in the haunted house the way they did for Oprah, that would be fantastic!

Jim Lichon terrifies guests at Fear City (8240 N Austin Ave, Morton Grove, 224-888-1031) through Halloween, Monday 31. Buy tickets at fearcitychicago.com.
