“Weird mom” wears dedication to her children on her sleeves.
Gigi “DeLuxe” Gross On her straitlaced North Center block, Gross is “the weird mom.” Raising 11-year-old fraternal twins Devon and Phoenix, this single mother has been known to bring home the bacon in some offbeat ways, supplementing her income as a pinup model, burlesque performer and latex fashion designer. But her main gig is art. The South Side native’s works include freak-show-inspired paintings (one of which hangs in Miami’s World Erotic Art Museum, which also houses works by Dalí and Picasso) and a sculpture of a mutant goat boy. Recently, she’s been making bedazzled “Hello Kitty machetes.” (Two have actually sold.) And though she speaks of her Chihuahua, Baby, and python Lilith as family, she wears her dedication to her kids on her tattoo sleeves: a “twin popsicle” with Devon and Phoenix’s initials on the sticks; a little top-hatted heart character taken from Devon’s “Mommy, I love you” notes; and an in-progress rising phoenix dedicated to her son.
