Today is Halloween, which means that while you may not want to think about Christmas, the big shops have to. One of the city's longest-standing holiday traditions got started today with the raising of the Great Tree in Macy's Walnut Room, as it's been done for more than 100 years. We sent a photographer to document the long process of decorating the tree, which will be officially be lit on Saturday at noon, when there will also be loads of family activities.
And for the record, I don't know how many Christmas bulbs go on the tree, but looking at these photos and using my old jelly-beans-in-a-jar skills, I'm going to guess a bajillion.
It's okay to be a show-off.
