Marc St. Camille and Dr. Lou Moretti
Satisfied singles
One is not the loneliest number. At least according to Chicagoans Marc St. Camille, a hypnotherapist, and Dr. Lou Moretti, an emergency-room veteran. In It’s Okay to Be Single (self-published), they say flying solo is the only way to go.
The book’s questionnaire asks: “Do you wish your partner were dead?” If that’s the case, don’t you have bigger problems?

MSC: I’ve had clients tell me that unless their husband dies, they don’t see how [the relationship] is going to end. Which is harsh, but it’s not uncommon. There’s a whole list of people who were perfectly normal, until they shot their spouse.
What’s the lesson behind the films you recommend: Fatal Attraction, Dolores Claiborne, Sid and Nancy?
MSC: Beware: This is what could happen if things go really wrong.
What caused you to go the strictly single route?

LM: For me, it was more from observations in the ER. Have you ever heard of anyone attempting suicide because they’re in a bad relationship or broken up? It’s very common.
MSC: There are those people who are single and cannot be alone. But there are other ways of living. You can live like The Golden Girls.
Or like Bert and Ernie.
MSC: [Laughs] That’s funny—Bert and Ernie.
