Sam Rosen
Hillary heartbreaker

The Democratic presidential campaign has seemed like one overlong courtship ritual: the awkward dates, the he-said-she-said drama, those 3am phone calls. So it’s only fitting that Obama supporters now have a convenient way to tell Hillary, “I’m just not that into you.” Nicetrygiveup.com, a site created by local web-design maven and Post Family artist collective member Sam Rosen, is filling up with funny and touching breakup letters to the New York senator. In his letter, Rosen says: “I’ve found someone new—someone that makes me feel hopeful and important. This is it, Hillary, but I will never forget our special time together. You’ll always be my first lady.”
Were you surprised by the serious missives mixed in with all the snarky posts?
I knew most would be jokey, but there have been some really serious and really mean things sent to us. We do pretty simple filtering: You can’t post anything without us seeing it first, and we’re really liberal about what we post as long as it’s not completely hateful. But we’ve seen some really fucked-up shit. There’s been some racist stuff that has come through. There’s been some mean, angry stuff like, “You vapid cunt.” And there’s also some really heartfelt letters. One says, “You gave Bush a blank check to send my son to die.”
What’s your favorite breakup line?
I love “It’s not you, it’s me.” That’s been a reinforced theme in a lot of these letters. A lot of people are saying, “No, no. It’s definitely you.” [Laughs.]
Why do you think that comes up a lot?
Probably because we are the change—the ones who are changing for the better—not her.…We’re the people who’ll be changing this country.
